Meemic “Fore Education” Golf Outing

At the end of July I went out of my comfort zone a bit and decided to golf in the Meemic Foundation Golf Outing. I have played golf for years for fun with my dad and grandpa, but had never played in a scramble before. I got to meet lots of wonderful people that work for Meemic and AAA who all support initiatives for educators across the state through the Meemic Foundation. The Foundation does incredible work to provide grants for teachers in a myriad of different classroom supports and also sponsors the Michigan Teacher of the Year program for the state of Michigan. Though I was nervous, I had a blast playing with Jim and Brian. Once I got the “swing” of things (pun intended), I relaxed, had fun, and even had some great shots. I look forward to doing this event again next year!

Tribute at the Michigan House of Representatives

On June 23, my family and I were invited to the capital to attend a Michigan House of Representatives session to have a tribute made to me on the floor by Representative Kara Hope. It was an amazing experience, and one I was so happy to share with my family. Thank you to Representative Hope and her staff for making us feel so welcome. Here are some of the highlights!

Is This Real?

Two months after the announcement of Michigan Teacher of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year, I still can still hardly process what has happened. I am not sure it will ever feel real to me, and I am not sure I ever want it to. Teaching is a true collaborative profession. It is a profession of relationships, community, and creative thinking. It is my privilege as Michigan Teacher of the Year to advocate for the needs of all learners, and represent the over 86,000 teachers across the state. I am ready to put my whole heart into this role. Thank you for embarking on this journey with me. Let’s go!
