I am a 15 year kindergarten teacher, that has recently moved to third grade. I am a reading specialist, lifelong learner, and activist.
I live in Lansing, Michigan and teach at Wilcox Elementary in Holt Public Schools.

With equity and access at the heart of my work, my mission as 2021-2022 Michigan Teacher of the year will be:
- Through collaboration, reimagine educational opportunities to make learning equitable and accessible for all learners.
- Build lifelong readers through prioritizing thoughtful and intentional literacy education to students kindergarten through twelfth grade by teaching literature by diverse authors and focusing on continual critical comprehension skills.
- Creating reflective practice routines that provide educators the tools to modify instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
- Develop character and leadership skills through intentional instruction that encourages advocacy, empathy and perseverance.
- Establish relationships that allow students to recognize their potential, be themselves, have security and trust in their learning spaces, and to be celebrated for all that they are.
- Understanding the mental health of students as we transition from the pandemic back to the classroom.
My Passions

Character and Leadership
Building leaders and providing opportunities for kids to recognize the needs in their community help to build global citizens at the earliest levels.

Developing Lifelong Readers
Understanding students as individuals who have unique learning needs, teaching a child to read is a gift you are bestowing upon them their whole life. Instilling the confidence, passion and drive to read is what fuels me each and every day.

Building Relationships
Building relationships is the keystone to success in the classroom.

Equity and Access for All
As part of my district HEAT team, I strive everyday to educate myself and to be a co-conspirator in the fight for a more equitable education system that provides access for all students, and builds curriculum and opportunities that represents ALL learners.

Learning through Nature
Creating spaces that give students an opportunity to be in outside and experience the natural world is a powerful learning tool.

Community Outreach
Connecting to the community and providing opportunities and support to the underrepresented helps build relationships and experiences for students and families.
